Encouraged by the positive response to the bar designed by us for the Army Golf Club in Dhaula Kuan, Delhi, we were fortunate to be once again commissioned by M/s Seagram’s Manufacturing Limited (Currently Pernod Richard) to renovate the interiors of the “Oasis” bar of Defense Services Officer's Institute. This was approximately 5000 square feet in area. Considering the name, a combination of rough textured finishes were designed by us for the walls and flooring. Extensive detailing was incorporated into each and every design element, from the bar stools and other furniture to the counter top. Machine cut exposed bricks were also used in the base of the bar counter as well as for cladding of columns and arches. These were given a laquer coating to improve their longevity. In order to increase the feeling of openness, a central wall which divided the bar into two smaller enclosures was removed and replaced with an arch spanning 25 feet. Iranian onyx stone was used as the unique split level back lit counter top. Since the stone was translucent, it allowed the light to filter in creating the effect of a flame and undoubtedly enhancing the user experience. Our research into Vastu Shastra leads us to believe in the benefits of indoor plants towards creating a positive energy. The seating area featured customized, low maintenance planters with selected indoor plants to achieve this effect.
